The Human Rights Film Network has signed a letter of solidarity in support of our friends at Docudays Ukraine and the film community in Ukraine.

Text of the letter:

We, the undersigned, express our unwavering support for the people of Ukraine in this incredibly difficult time. The Kremlin’s aggression represents a horrific act of war that has no place in modern society, Europe, or the democratic world.

We stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and call on the international community to respond appropriately, ensuring that Putin’s hostile actions are not left unpunished. No nation has the right to violate the borders of a sovereign state under any false pretext. This is an attack on democracy.

As members of the international documentary community of filmmakers and film professionals, we condemn this act of aggression. We urge political leaders to take immediate action, respond decisively to the Russian invasion, and work together toward the withdrawal of Russian forces from Ukraine.

We call upon the international community to support Ukrainian journalists, filmmakers, and artists who are courageously documenting their reality amidst the ongoing information war being waged against them.

We also emphasize that hatred directed towards the Russian people based on the actions of individuals is equally reprehensible. We stand with the many Russians who oppose Putin’s actions and regime, and who continue to make courageous contributions toward a free and just world, despite the personal risks they face.

Stay strong, Ukrainian friends!
